Oh baby, you've grown! May 24, 2014

It is amazing how fast this baby Canada Goose grew!  The first picture was taken on May 4 and the second May 24.   I know its very unlikely that this is the same baby but for blog sake let's pretend it is.

I am a docent (and so was David) at Dickerson Park Zoo, part of what I do there used to involve helping in Education with Zoo class where we would walk multiple children down a long sidewalk fully loaded with duck poo, helping each child do the poo dodge to keep their feet neat and clean.  I feel for people who have had bad experiences with them but I still love to see them, just maybe not over-populated in public places.

QUICK FACTS ON THE CANADA GOOSE:
ADULT WINGSPAN IS BETWEEN 4.2 TO 6.1 FEET
LONGEST WINGSPAN EVER RECORDED WAS REPORTEDLY OVER 7 FEET
MALE AND FEMALE MATE FOR LIFE
FEMALES ARE SMALLER THAN MALES

May work day-May 10, 2014

Time to repair the Teak.  David wanted to sand and just apply teak oil to our hatch railings which were looking pretty spotty. We are waiting to see how they look through this summer with out varnish just oiled.  We do cover all the teak when we leave.  We are waiting until all the teak is showing wear, then we will varnish but we thought we would order Honey Teak.  If anyone has tried Honey Teak in fresh water we would love to hear from you.  This with a mouse sander took just a couple of hours.  Check out the before and after pics.

David using his new sander.
He is looking good for a work day.

David inspecting his work.
Looks good as long as we keep applying teak oil.

Bunny is happy napping, her main job.
